Surf lovers? Here is the paradise. It is Prassonissi beach, located at the southern tip of the island, where Aegean and Mediterranean meet, a hundred kilometers south from the capital and 40 southwest of the village of Lindos.
The beach consists of two sandy bays that come together in an islet, accessible on foot or swimming depending on the level of the tide. The beach is well equipped and offers the possibility to rent surfing and windsurfing equipment. Taverns and rooms for rent are located near the beach.
The sea in front of the beach, as mentioned, is a real paradise for windsurfing and kitesurfing lovers that come here to face the waves on the Aegean side from all over Europe. The best waves are formed in the months of July and August when the Meltemi sweeps the area. Normally in this area the winds blow from the ground at a force of 6-8 degrees on the Beaufort scale, allowing you to ride up to 2-3 meters high breakers.
Needless to say that the Prassonissi beach, with the two sandy bays opposite to the meeting of the seas, is also an ideal destination for those who do not practice surfing but simply want to enjoy a sunbath. Behind the beach there are some restaurants and two small hotels.
