Afandou beach, one of the best known and at the same time the quietest on the island, is about 22 kilometers southeast of Rhodes town, a stone’s throw from the village having the same name. It is a beach of sand and pebbles with a long and very wide shoreline. Which has got both free stretches and stretches equipped with sunbeds and beach umbrellas. The sea is between blue and emerald green, limpid and crystalline, with depths that become deeper quite quickly, ideal for swimming and cooling off at any time. This is, as mentioned, a beach that is never too crowded, even for the fact that it offers some service less than other nearby beaches. On the beach there are kiosks where you can rent equipment for windsurfing, recommended when the wind rises. It is possible to do water sports as well as relax and taste some fresh fish in one of the beach taverns.
Near the beach you can also find taverns and different types of accommodation in the nearby village. Those who go to Afandou beach often do thanks to the golf courses of the Rhodes Golf Course, which is located practically behind the coast. It is possible to reach the beach from the center of the village of Afandou with a mini-train or a bus.
Just south there is the village of Kolymbia with an organized sandy beach where you can rent a pedal boat and you can find various accommodation facilities, such as taverns and hotels.
