You do not go to Rhodes to sunbath and look at the horizon (only). Who chooses the largest island of the Dodecanese as a destination for their holidays, let’s tell the truth, he does so to immerse themselves in the sea of events, parties, shows, events of all kinds that every year in Rhodes and environs literally ignite the summers of vacationers and visitors.

Basically every day and every night there is nothing but spoiled for choice. Do you want any examples? Let’s start with the cultural events: yes, there are those, too, since every summer a Festival is organized by the Cultural Authority of the Municipality of Rhodes with music, traditional dances and theatrical performances.

Furthermore, takes place every year the International Dance Festival, usually in the last ten days of August. This event takes the character of a competition and is open to groups form all over the world. It takes place in the National Theatre of Rhodes. The International Opera Festival takes place every year, the last decade of July, in the courtyard of the Grand Master’s Palace. Instead, the Music Days provide for classical and refined music from all over the world, and take place in the medieval part of the city: for 15 days classical music becomes the authentic and undisputed star.

And cinema could not miss. Every year, Rhodes hosts an international festival dedicated to environmental cinema, upon September: the first edition of the festival, in 2001, was held in Zakynthos, but the following year the event has moved to Rhodes. It is now become a fixed date on the island events agenda. The festival is divided into a competitive part (with in competition films related to environmental and ecological themes) and a non-competitive one, with the specific aim at drawing attention to environmental issues.

By the Old City Greek Dance Theatre is possible to re-experiencing the traditions of the past, reviewed and corrected with the sensitivity of nowadays. A perfect opportunity to experience the Dodecanese islands through popular traditions, dances and songs with live music and traditional costumes.

In short, if you are in Rhodes during the summer, the opportunities to have fun maybe tasting the food and wine specialities of the area certainly will not miss. The first twenty days of August the whole island animates thanks to the famous wine festival, in homage to the nectar of Bacchus. Folkloristic dances, street artists, live music, orchestras and especially wine at will characterize what has become a colourful local festival.

Between the end of June and the beginning of July the naval week takes place with sports competitions (such as canoeing, water polo and kayaking), musical concerts and folkloristic dances. During the summer, concerts are also organized at the Diagora stadium. Not mentioning the parties with music, dances and songs that almost weekly, in addition to Rhodes city, are also organized in the other Districts of the island, in the villages, on the beaches. Time to get bored? No, definitely not.
